Hey,
I made this suggestion earlier, but I think it would be awesome if current faculty/student research and projects were regularly published on the homepage. On the one hand, Carolina is a research and at our core we’re supposed to be pushing the boundaries of knowledge; what better way to communicate just how good we are at achieving this goal than advertising our great faculty/student’s work? The other side of the coin is that this is a no-lose proposal: the best and brightest are attracted to vibrant academic communities. Often, that Carolina is a vibrant academic environment is lost in the context of athletics and other important, but tertiary pursuits. My belief is that we can reinforce the image of Carolina being the leading public institution of higher education in the country by publishing our community’s work on the homepage. Lastly, the thumbnails illustrating the research of our faculty, along with descriptions is already done via Endeavors, a university publication. The link is below:

Seke: You are on target with your comment, and that’s exactly what we plan to do: show the vibrancy, relevancy, depth and breadth of faculty/student research. Thanks!
I prefer the second design, Design B.
The lower half, in white is easier to read; there seems to be less choppiness in that section as well. I like the multiple small photos in the top half as well; there the black color works well as a border/frame for the pictures
Design A, with so MUCH black, is a bit overwhelming — too intense without the color conveying any particular message.
